Monthy Self-Examination

Raise your left arm and fold it behind your neck.

Thoroughly explore your left breast using four fingers of your right hand.

Beginning at the outmost edge, slowly press the flat part of your fingers in a circular path around the breast.

Gradually work toward the nipple. Examine the entire breast.

Pay special attention to the area between the breast and the underarm, including the underarm itself.

Feel for any unusual lump or mass under the skin.

Repeat the exam on your right breast.

Gently squeeze each nipple and look for discharge.

Repeat the exam lying on your back; this position flattens the breast and makes it easier to examine. Use the same circular motion as described earlier.
