My name is Leah Jackson and I am currently a doctoral student at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock in Higher Education. I was born and raised in Pine Bluff, Arkansas where I ENJOY spending time with my parents and three sisters.

I currently hold a Bachelor of Science degree in Agribusiness from the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff and a Master of Science degree in Agricultural Education from Iowa State University. I am enrolled in the Higher Education doctoral program in hopes of gaining preparation to teach in a college or university setting. Consequently, this will allow me the opportunity to fulfill my passion of working with and academically preparing learners. In addition to working with college students, I have always had a passion for working with the K-12 population. Having a concentration in Student Affairs will grant me greater access and better qualify me to work in this setting.

I enjoy working with students and igniting in them the desire to learn. My experiences as an education graduate student has assisted in my understanding that preparation and the development of interest areas begin prior to post-secondary education. It begins in the elementary and secondary environment and this is where I would like to make an impact. My ability to apply relevant approaches to teaching and learning positions me to be an effective teacher. My experiences have aided me to understand that every student has an individually unique story, regardless the age. Students bring a plethora of backgrounds with them into the academic environment. While academic success is the goal for all students, the approach may vary based on students’ background environments, goals, and individual needs. Nothing pleases me more than to see the excitement on a child’s face when they "get it."
